Meals on Wheels

This is a meal delivery service for seniors and individuals with disabilities, who for health reasons, have difficulties preparing their own meals. LDCSS has facilitated the Meals on Wheels program in Burns Lake since 2006.

This program provides opportunity for individuals to live independently with self reliance in their own home. Delicious and affordable meals are delivered right to your door. Short-term or long-term, we are here to help.  LDCSS accepts applications & coordinates the community volunteers who deliver a hot, evening meal prepared by the Lakes District Hospital & Health Centre. Our friendly volunteers deliver more than 800 dinner meals each year.  Volunteers also offer the comfort of a friendly chat and the reassurance of an informal check on the safety and well-being of meal recipients.

BENEFITS:

  • social contact for seniors and disabled persons living alone
  • security knowing that a volunteer will check on their well-being and respond quickly in emergency situations
  • short term convalescent help
  • ongoing assistance for the chronically ill
  • helps seniors remain independent longer
